anthro research essays
anthro research essays In a March 26, 1999 issue of Science G. A. Clark contributed an article entitled Highly Visible, Curiously Intangible, subtitled modern human origins research. This article tackles the issues surrounding the two competing models of human evolution: the continuity model and the replacement model. Clark borrowed the title from the geneticist Henry Harpendings phrase-a highly visible, yet intangible field, which Harpeding used to describe the controversial endeavor to trace the modern human origins. Clark states that until scientists make explicit paradigms for both replacement and continuity models, each model supporter camp will interpret common variables differently, to make them fit each respective model. Clark (1999) wrote, We are, in effect, consumers of one anothers research conclusions, but we select among alternative sets of research conclusions in accordance with our biases and preconceptions. These biases and preconceptions must be subjected to critical scrutiny. As long as t here is no explicit concern with the logic of inference-how we know what we think we know about the past-there can be no consensus (Clark, 1999, p. 2029). This paper will trace the origins of hominids, from the 4.4 mya Australopithecine period to the 100 tya Homo sapien period. It will side with the multiregional continuity model of hominid evolution, however, several sittings from works that support the replacement model will be incorporated into this paper in order to compare and contrast the significant differences in the two models. Most experts in the field of anthropology agree that the first erect bipeds, called the early hominids appeared in East Africa about four million years ago. They were given the name Australopithecus-being very primitive hominids, with small craniums and elongated arms, they were not known to have used fire or made tools. Researchers are aware of a few species o...

I Hate My Job How to Work Hard When You Dont Care Anymore
I Hate My Job How to Work Hard When You Dont Care Anymore The Internet is plagued with clichà ©d articles telling you the corporate world is basically like Disneyland, where everything is goldenà and all you have to do is use a little elbow grease and youââ¬â¢ll be okay. Well, Iââ¬â¢m here to spill the beans on this facade. Itââ¬â¢s simply not true. Sometimes your job sucks and no amount of top 7, top 8, or top 10 lists on how to get ahead will change that. The problem is that you still need to make money. You hate your job and youââ¬â¢re disenfranchised withà the corporate world, but you still need to get paid in order to support yourself. So what do you do? If there is anything Iââ¬â¢ve learned from my time on reddit, itââ¬â¢s that redditors are brutally honest- regardless of what that honesty entails. So Iââ¬â¢m going to be brutally honest with all of you.à Iââ¬â¢m not gonna sit here and give you advice like ââ¬Å"cheer upâ⬠or ââ¬Å"shift your mindsetâ⬠because we all know thatââ¬â¢sà common sense, and you could and would do it yourself if it were possible.Instead, Iââ¬â¢ll speak from my own personal experiences. Hopefully, it will help some of you look at your job in a new light.1.à Donââ¬â¢t work longer than youââ¬â¢re supposed toIf youââ¬â¢re expected to work 9-5, work 9-5. Donââ¬â¢t waste extra time in that hellhole. My reasoning for this is simple: it will affect your overall happiness and productivity. Think about it, youââ¬â¢re miserable for 8 hours a day, every day. Thatââ¬â¢s 40 hours of misery a week. Imagine if you stayed an hour late every day. That would bump the number up to 45 hours of misery a week. Donââ¬â¢t do that to yourself. Youââ¬â¢ll probably get more work done working 40 hours than 45, anyway.2. Find a side projectPart of the reason youââ¬â¢re miserable is because youââ¬â¢re not really being fulfilled creatively. If you picked up a side project to work on, you would at least be able to find something to look fo rward to during the day. You could start a blog. Take up cooking. Start a YouTube channel. There are tons of options out there. And who knows, one day that side project might become your main source of income.3. Learnà while you workAt this point, weââ¬â¢re assuming your job is dull and unfulfilling. So why not learn something while you work? Listen to a podcast about science (my personal favorite is StarTalkRadio), nature, or anything you find interesting. You can even teach yourself a new language while you enter data into that spreadsheet. As long as your hands do the work, your brain can focus on learning Spanish, French, etc.4. Take a napWhat better way to rejuvenate your energy and productivity than by taking a nap? Canââ¬â¢t take a nap in your office because your boss is a fire breathing dragon? You can downloadà breatherà from the app store, an app that lets you rent quiet spaces for 30+ minute intervals. Each comes furnished with a table, sofa, and most importan tly: silence. While this app should be used sparingly because it can cost anywhere from $20-$40 an hour, taking a nap once a week can work miracles for your overall mindset. So basically what Iââ¬â¢m getting at is that even if your job sucks, there are things you can do to rejuvenate your enthusiasm and productivity. All of these things, when used together, can provide you with the ability to work hard at your job even if you no longer care. Because at the end of the day, you donââ¬â¢t need to care about your job in order to bring home thatà bacon. You just need to rig the game in your favor.

Tabloid, Celebrity Internet Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Tabloid, Celebrity Internet Assignment - Essay Example The new Internet values, therefore, undermine the traditional internet values whereby infotainment becomes rampant. The audiences, therefore, get obsessed with tabloids and the tabularization culture in the modern society. Hence, there is something beyond the social media or the Internet availability factor that is a driving force towards this appetite (Holmes and Redmond 46). More important, the desire towards this move is by the fact that tabloid significantly immersed in exploring the privacy of various celebrities. It is obvious that this counts towards the sales of tabloids. For instance, the tabloids had sold millions of issues to the public through the internet by the ridiculous heading of the cover reading: ââ¬ËObama gay scandal.ââ¬â¢ Therefore, the celebrities such as entertainers and athletes considerably advance the spread of tabloids as their names and their images sold to the public in an engaging manner. In many occasions, the lives of the famous people end up revealed by the camera through the Internet drawing on a set of stylistic features. More often, such actions taken by media persons in the move to the sale or reach to the public in a massive manner thereby, use celebrities to make a profit (Holmes and Redmond 49). All American Tragedy :: essays papers
All American Tragedy Without a doubt, most Americans can distinctly draw a picture in their minds of John Wilkes Boothâ⬠¦ The Civil War had ended five days previously with the surrender of General Lee. President Lincoln and the first lady had decided to take a night off and see a stage play at the Fordââ¬â¢s Theatre. An obviously enraged young actor preceded into the stage box a kills Lincoln, and then exits the theatre by jumping on to the stage and escaping through the back where a horse had been waiting. Booth tried to escape for good, but within two weeks he was killed in a violent ordeal near Bowling Green, VA. From the moment the shot rang out in that theatre, the American people knew who Booth was. An interesting note was that if Lincoln had seen the men who avenged the South, he would have recognized Booth immediately. This would have not came as a surprise to many, since John Wilkes was one of the most recognizable men in the country, according to the National Preservation Society, or NPS. Lincoln was an avid theatregoer, and on Nov. 9, 1863, after Booth had preformed The Marble Heart, the President asked around back stage if he could meet with the star. Booth, being the outspoken supporter of the South that he was, declined the offer. This was the first major clue of Boothââ¬â¢s strong dislike of Lincoln. Booth was surely not in need of attention. ââ¬Å"Thought the Civil War, the Northern newspapers fell over each other as they showered the young actor with praise.â⬠(NPS 2) Chris Mynk 71567 How then is it possible to reconcile the two conflicting impressions of John Wilkes Booth? The best answer would probably be that one must understand the environments in which produced him- the world of theater and the struggle between the North and the South. Booth was raised in a theatrical family, where Shakespearean works were recited as often as the bible. ââ¬Å"As the struggle between the States wore on, the battlefields at Gettysburg and Antietam must not have seemed very different than the battlefield of Richard III.â⬠(Williams 578) In his career, Booth died a dramatic death hundreds of times. Many scholars have voiced the opinion that the assassination was, perhaps, Boothââ¬â¢s greatest "performance". In 1899, Joel Chandler Harris, a contemporary of Booth's who would become famous for his Uncle Remus folk tales, wrote that Booth "had all the elements of genius but seemed powerless to focus them.

Bw Manufacturing Essay
CASE SUMMARY The owners of BW Manufacturing, a small manufacturer of gas grills, have prepared a preliminary budget for the upcoming year and would like to assess the financial impact of several alternative scenarios, including dropping a product; changing the price on a product, with a resulting increase in volume; and shifting advertising focus, with a resulting shift in volume from one product to another. A new budget must be prepared. At year-end, the actual results are better than had been planned, but not necessarily better than what should have been, given actual sales volumes. TEACHING OBJECTIVES This short case addresses the topic of contribution analysis as an easy way to analyze profit-planning issues such as adding or dropping a product or service; changing a price; adding or decreasing expected volumes; or preparing a profit budget. In this situation there are three products, each with different proportions of variable and fixed costs. The product with the highest profit per unit on a full cost basis has the lowest contribution per unit on a variable cost basis, and vice versa. Four different marketing plans are proposed before one is finally adopted as the plan for the year. At year-end the actual results can be compared with the budget and with a flex or adjusted budget based on the actual product volumes realized. The numbers are simple and the students can readily see the benefit of variable costing. 2. Calculate the impact of reducing the Grill C price to $75, with the expectation that the volume of that product will increase to 220,000 units. Assume no other changes to the plan. 3. Calculate the impact of a 10,000-unit decrease in Grill A and a 10,000-unit increase in Grill C volume due to a change in advertising focus. Assume no other changes to the plan. 4. Calculate the impact of a $5 decrease in Grill Cââ¬Ës price and a change in advertising focus, leading to a 10,000-unit decrease in Grill A volume and a 30,000-unit increase in Grill C volume. Assume no other changes to the plan. 5. Prepare a revised 2009 profit budget assuming the owners chose Option 2ââ¬âlowering the price of Grill C to $75 and expecting sales volume of that grill to increase to 220,000 units. 6. The actual results for 2009 are shown below. Was 2009 net income more or less than what should have been expected given these actual volumes and prices? If the results were different, why?

Essay about Things Fall Apart Literary Analysis - 662 Words
Things Fall Apart Analysis In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe employs imagery, symbolism, and themes to reveal the story of Okonkwo. Throughout the novel he weaves in these things to really tell us the tale. With imagery, Achebe really is able to set the setting and the feel of the scene even deeper. The drums rose to a frenzy. The people surged forward. The young men who kept order flew around, waving their palm fronds. Old men nodded to the beat of the drums and remembered the days when they wrestled to its intoxicating rhythm. That was the breaking point for Nwoye, it was when he realized how much he did not want to be like his father, nor did he actually want anything to do with him or his culture and ways.
